Cabins and campervan spaces at the Roost Merthyr Tydfil
A stay at The Roost combines comfort and practicality. With just five cabins, campervan spaces and facilities nestled among the trees, The Roost is small, friendly and welcoming. The site offers hikers, bikers and outdoor lovers the essentials needed for a relaxing few days away.
And, as an award-winning, Visit Wales accredited Glamping Site, you can rest assured that we meet the highest standards. We also carry the Visit Wales Cyclists and Walkers Welcome awards.
Explore The Roost
As the gates open, we hope you'll agree – The Roost is a little green gem.
You'll arrive into a spacious car park equipped with twin EV charger. Just off the car park, you'll find all the essential facilities: a bike wash and repair stand with tools, a drying room, a guest store and honesty shop, recycling area, and a covered outdoor sink.
Nestled among the trees are our five cosy cabins, along with the kitchen and shower block. Kitchen 3 sits slightly apart, down a few steps. All kitchens and shower rooms are private, unless you've booked the entire site. For group stays, Kitchens 1 and 2 open up into a spacious shared kitchen, while Kitchen 3 works brilliantly as a bar or serving space.
Outdoors, there are plenty of seats and picnic tables. Whether you're firing up the BBQ, cooking pizzas in the wood-fired oven, or relaxing around the fire pit, The Roost is built for laid-back, post-adventure comfort.
Choose your cabin
We designed our cabins for comfort, practicality and adventure. Secure in-cabin bike storage was a must-have from day one. When we couldn’t find cabins that met our needs, we designed our own, partnering with a local company to bring the vision to life.
Each cabin has a simple, functional layout, making it a practical base for up to two adults and two children. Dogs are welcome too, so no one gets left behind.
We offer three types of cabins, detailed below. Standard features for all cabins are as follows:
- A 4ft-wide small double bunk bed – spacious for one, cosy for two
- A table with four stools/seats
- Heating, lighting, and power points with USB sockets
- Hooks, mirrors, and a shelf for storage
- Base sheets and mattress protectors (additional bedding is available to hire).

Ensuite Arosfa
Arosfa has the same footprint as the original cabins but includes an ensuite shower room and kitchenette. While there wasn’t space for in-cabin bike storage, it comes with its own secure, lockable bike store just outside. In addition to our standard cabin features, Arosfa has:
- ensuite with loo, electric shower, and sink
- kitchenette with small fridge, kettle, microwave, single induction hob, pans, crockery etc
- Asgard cycle locker for two bikes (H: 1165, D: 1938, W: 898mm)
- BBQ/firepit with tools
- sleeps 2 adults and 1 child.

The 'original' cabins
Our original cabins, Del Fryn, Gwynfa and Noddfa, are all the same size and layout. They have a storage porch for bikes and gear. The kitchens and shower rooms are separate and a few steps away. In addition to our standard cabin features, they have:
- private well-equipped kitchens and shower rooms
- in-cabin storage porch with two bike hooks, a rail for wet gear, coat hooks and a tray for muddy boots
- sleeps 2 adults and 2 children
- single camp bed
- there are a few steps up to Del Fryn.

Bodlawen
Bodlawen is similar to our original cabins but without a kitchen. In the cabin, you'll find essentials like a kettle, crockery etc, and the outdoor sink can be used for drinking water and cold water washing up. It's ideal for booking with another cabin. In addition to our standard cabin features, Bodlawen has:
- private shower room
- essentials: crockery, cutlery, kettle, water jug, tea towels and BBQ with tools
- in-cabin storage porch for bikes etc
- single camp bed
- sleeps 2 adults and 2 children
- there are a few steps up to Bodlawen.

Campervan spaces
We have space for 1, sometimes 2, small campervans (max 5m due to restricted space/turning), subject to availability.
Van guests have use of electric hook-ups and a shower room will be allocated (this may on rare occasions be shared between guests from two vans). There's also outdoor seating and a covered outdoor sink area with drinking water, washing up liquid etc for cleaning up.
- electric hook-up
- allocated shower room
- covered outdoor sink area with washing up liquid, hand wash etc for washing up and drinking water
- outdoor seating.
Dog-friendly glamping at The Roost Merthyr Tydfil
Dogs are welcome at The Roost. The site is gated and there's plenty of space for dogs to enjoy sniffing about. And, with the Taff Trail outside our gate, it's easy to take them for a walk.
All cabins are dog friendly though there's more space for them and you in the 'original' cabins.

"We had a lovely stay! The accommodation and site is beautiful - very well thought out and had everything we needed. The bike storage inside the cabin is a great idea and was very convenient. The host was brilliant and sent clear instructions in plenty of time and was very responsive. Lovely cabins on a great site - we'll be visiting again!"
