Cabins and campervan spaces at the Roost Merthyr Tydfil
A stay at The Roost combines comfort and practicality. With just five cabins, campervan spaces and facilities nestled among the trees, The Roost is small, friendly and welcoming. The site offers hikers, bikers and outdoor lovers the essentials needed for a relaxing few days away.
And, as an award-winning, Visit Wales accredited Glamping Site, you can rest assured that we meet the highest standards. We also carry the Visit Wales Cyclists and Walkers Welcome awards.
Explore The Roost
As the gates open, we hope you'll agree, The Roost is a little green gem. You'll come into our spacious car park with twin EV charger. Off the car park you'll find all the essentials including a bike wash and repair stand with tools, the recycling area, drying room, guest store and honesty shop and a covered, outdoor sink.
Nestled among the trees are our five cabins and the kitchen and shower block. Kitchen 3 sits separately, down a few steps. All kitchens and shower rooms are private unless you've booked the entire site. For group stays, kitchens 1 and 2 open up into a spacious shared kitchen, while kitchen 3 makes a great bar or service area.
Outside, there are plenty of outdoor seats and picnic tables around the kitchens. Whether you're firing up the BBQ, making pizzas in the pizza oven, or unwinding around the fire pit, The Roost is designed for post-activity relaxation.
Choose your cabin
We designed our cabins with warmth, comfort, and relaxation in mind. From the outset, secure in-cabin bike storage was a must-have, and as we couldn't find cabins with this feature, we designed our own and partnered with a local company to bring them to life.
With a simple yet functional layout, each cabin provides a practical base for up to two adults and two children. Dogs are welcome too. While they all share the following key features, there are a few differences, as outlined below:
- a 4ft wide/small double bunk bed, spacious for one and cosy for two
- a table with four stools/seats
- heating, lighting and power/USB sockets
- hooks, mirrors and a shelf
- base sheets and mattress protectors are provided; additional bedding is available as an optional extra.

Ensuite Arosfa
Arosfa has the same footprint as the original cabins but with an ensuite shower room and kitchenette. We couldn't squeeze in the bike storage so it comes with a separate bike store. In addition to the above, it has:
- ensuite shower room with loo, electric shower, heated towel rail and sink
- well-equipped kitchenette with small fridge, kettle, microwave, single induction hob, pans, crockery etc plus a BBQ
- Asgard cycle locker for two bikes at the rear of the cabin (internal measurements: H: 1165, D: 1938, W: 898mm)
- sleeps 2 adults and 1 child.

The 'original' cabins
Our original cabins, Del Fryn, Gwynfa and Noddfa, are all the same size and layout. They have a handy storage porch for bikes, gear etc. The kitchens and shower rooms are a few steps away. In addition to the above features, they have:
- allocated, private well-equipped kitchens and shower rooms
- in-cabin storage porch with two bike hooks, a rail for wet gear, coat hooks and a tray for muddy boots.
- a single camp bed
- sleeps 2 adults and 2 children
- There are a few steps to Del Fryn.

Bodlawen
Bodlawen is the same as the original cabins but without a kitchen. Instead, in the cabin, there are essentials including a kettle, crockery etc. The outdoor sink can be used for drinking water and washing up (cold water only). Bodlawen is ideal for booking with another cabin. In addition to the above features, it has:
- allocated, private shower room
- essentials - crockery, cutlery, kettle, tea, coffee, sugar, water jug, tea towels etc
- in-cabin storage porch as in the original cabins
- a single camp bed
- sleeps 2 adults and 2 children
- There are a few steps to Bodlawen.

Campervan spaces
We have space for 1, sometimes 2, small campervans (max 5m due to restricted space/turning), subject to availability.
Van guests have use of electric hook-ups and a shower room will be allocated (this may on rare occasions be shared between guests from two vans). There's also outdoor seating and a covered outdoor sink area with drinking water, washing up liquid etc for cleaning up.
- Electric hook-up
- Allocated shower room
- Covered outdoor sink area with washing up liquid, hand wash etc for washing up and drinking water
- Outdoor seating.
Dog-friendly glamping at The Roost Merthyr Tydfil
Dogs are welcome at The Roost. The site is gated and there's plenty of space for dogs to enjoy sniffing about. And, with the Taff Trail outside our gate, it's easy to take them for a walk.
All cabins are dog friendly though there's more space for them and you in the 'original' cabins.

"We had a lovely stay! The accommodation and site is beautiful - very well thought out and had everything we needed. The bike storage inside the cabin is a great idea and was very convenient. The host was brilliant and sent clear instructions in plenty of time and was very responsive. Lovely cabins on a great site - we'll be visiting again!"
