Open for business

The Roost Merthyr Tydfil officially opened for business this October. The concept was taking shape for a while prior to that; then we had to build it and finally test-drive it. All in all it’s taken a little while to get to here but the Roost is go!

We have had a steady stream of bookings since opening with guests coming from as far afield as North Wales, the South East and Yorkshire.  Most have come to ride at BikePark Wales but others have come for the hiking and other biking that the area has to offer.

Some lovely guests from Manchester stayed for a couple of days. They did BikePark Wales then cycled the Taff Trail to Cardiff. On the way they stopped at the Bunch of Grapes in Pontypridd which has a fab beer selection and nice food. From Cardiff they got the train back to our local station, Troedyrhiw, which is a 5 minute walk away.

You can also cycle the Taff Trail the other way to Brecon via Talybont on Usk. It’s a stunning, if hilly, route linking to off road trails of various grades.

Reviews have at times brought a tear to the eye and it’s good to know our hard work is paying off. We’ve had constructive feedback too which is good for us and future guests!

The Roost is also perfect for small group, exclusive bookings. We’ve got our first group doing this at the end of November. They’ve booked all four cabins for a hiking weekend and will have the place all to themselves.

As we’ve been graded by Visit Wales with a Quality Standard for Glamping you can be sure what we offer has met their grading requirements for comfort, cleanliness, service etc.

Work at the Roost is ongoing and we’re busy planting native hedging around the site to make it even greener. By spring it should be in full bloom!
